There are a handful of cameramen working at different times and at different arenas. Most - but not all - matches are being recorded. The SAK EVEnt crew will make a 'highlights' section after the tournament, but at the moment, tracking down a specific match can prove difficult.
Ararius (Rupture) and Kelevraen (Thorax) defeat Fuynin (Stabber) and Khory Bitterleaf (Caracal) in 2:00.

Coming into the halfway point of the tournament, and today has been a chaotic day, at best. I thank everyone for their patience and I apologize on behalf of the SAK EVEnt crew to those who may feel unjustly-treated by the referees ... but as has been stated since the very beginning of registration: all referee decisions are final. Regardless, the show must go on:
bigbaby27 and prof volkner are withdrawn due to availability issues. Senya RUS and Jejo Zanzibaroov move onto the next round.
tituria supera and verital are withdrawn due to availability issues. whk deathknight and Kyros Emerson move onto the next round.

Alfadir d'Aegir (Thorax) and Koyomi Higarasu (Vexor) defeat Mr Yoda (Celestis) and uber nator (Caracal) in 9:30. This match was exceptional - definitely one of the best in the tournament - as we watched the Vexor and Celestis spend half the match throwing everything they could at each other.
Ecaf Ersa (Vexor) and Mobyr Rutthelm (Vexor) defeat Ariel Loren (Vexor) and Jolia Darkstrider (Blackbird) in 3:30. I felt privileged to finally see someone make smart use of sentries in the tournament. Good fight from both sides!

Correct. Nova has been keeping track of ships used, and posted a running tally on page 4 of this thread. Also, for those looking for a more simplified bracket, the final 32 bracket can be viewed at http://sak-eve.com/tourneyfinal.jpg. As for shortest match, I believe 50 seconds was the shortest so far.

Statistical breakdown for the geeks out there:
ships flown vs victorious ships pie-charts
With less than a dozen matches remaining in the tournament, there are a few trends upon which to comment. Although Gallente combat boats (Vex and Rax) are the most popular ships, the Rupture is by far the most successful. The most common pairing was the Rup/Rax.
The Moas in the tourney performed very poorly, so the upcoming +1 turret buff is definitely welcome. Personally, I think the Omen post-buff would have made this tourney much more exciting, but I guess we shall see the effects next year. :)
I found it interesting that a Cara paired with a different ship often ended in defeat. However, a pairing of two Caras proved very successful for a number of teams. Blackbirds performed as expected, as ECM was a powerful focal point in the strategy in this tourney.
Drones, however, were by far the strongest weapon in the tourney. Often the deployment and counter-attacks with drones turned the tide in a battle. Sentries, however, did not have a strong showing - mostly due to poor strategy. And as expected, many strategies were also dependent on speed - from fittings, overheating AB/MWD, and implants.
One team in particular decided to field a pair of Bellis and did rather well, considering. But overall, the lighter EW boats like the Belli and Cele did not have a high survival rate. Support vessels such as the Ossy also tended to fail miserably ... and no one has dared to fly an Exequoror, Scythe, or Augoror. Stabbers also had a poor showing, but that can be mostly attributed to the design of the tournament rather than a lack of usefulness.
And I cannot help but to notice that despite the small number of Amarr vessels in the tourney, they proved themselves as rather successful ... especially considering the sentiment much of the galaxy holds towards their ships in an 'even' match like this. The Arbitrator in particular had a strong showing, but the Maller was a bit of a curiosity. It was flown exceptionally by some pilots and not so well by others. Whether it was due to certain pilots overestimating its abilities or opponents properly-fit to withstand lasers is pure speculation. Regardless, Amarr cruisers were definitely more successful than Caldari; draw from this whatever conclusions you like ...
And finally, I am pleased to say that greater team age did not always translate into certain victory. In fact, 83 matches resulted in the older team's victory, and 78 in the younger team's victory. This is fairly close, and can be attributed mostly to the sheer density of the tournament (the first few rounds had teams of almost exactly the same age facing each other), the 'twelve month rule' penalty, and smart tactics (the youngest team progessing into the final 16, for instance).
I hope this quenched the thirst of the geeks in the audience. The finals are fast-approaching (this weekend), and I wish the remaining teams much luck!

Ararius (Rupture) and Kelevraen (Thorax) defeat ddemec (Rupture) and ev1ld (Vexor) in an astoundingly close 2:35. Amongst a lethal swarm of drones, Kel popped first, followed shortly by ddemec. And after a brutal trade of blows, Ararius was barely able to out-tank ev1ld. Definitely one of the closest matches of the tournament.

First semi-final match ended with Birkir (Arbitrator) and Ciprian (Arbitrator) defeating Jude Kopenhagen (Rupture) and Vanden (Arbitrator) in approximately 9 minutes. The pair of nano-fit Arbis again dominated with evasion tactics, and there was little Jude and Van could do to catch them.
At one point Vanden lured Birk and Cip to overshoot him and force them out of the arena by a small margin, but they immediately returned as per my warnings, not effecting the progress of the combat. This tactic was clever, but because Birk and Cip did not do it intentionally, immediately responded, and the spirit of the tournament is the fighting and not the pithy artificial rules ... I let it play out.
Congratulations to Birk and Cip for advancing into the finals. Jude and Van are not going home empty-handed; they were awarded the 250 million ISK third prize!

Amon Nagira (Vexor) and d dark (Rupture) defeat Sterrus (Vexor) and Reana Niks (Vexor) in 9:40. A great defensive strategy from the pair of Vexors put a major hurt on the drones of Amon and dark ... but after many arduous minutes of fighting, Amon and dark swooped in and were able to turn the tide very quickly. Good show!

Amon Nagira (Vexor) and d dark (Rupture) defeat Kuzya Morozov (Vexor) and Cautet (Blackbird) in an absolutely thrilling semi-final match lasting 5:20. Both teams had outstanding pilots and were about to adjust their tactics on-the-fly. However, Cautet's Blackbird simply could withstand the Rupture's direct fire and fell once dark was in range. Kuzya then put up a great fight, almost taking down Amon before he popped in turn.
Exceptional fight, and congratulations to everyone for advancing so far!

Edited by: el caido on 10/02/2008 21:11:27 In the highly-anticipated final match, Birkir (Arbitrator) and Ciprian (Arbitrator) defeat Amon Nagira (Vexor) and d dark (Rupture) in 6:30. A thoroughly-exceptional match of two very proven teams ... but the pair of Arbis once again proved uncatchable. 750 million ISK rewarded to Amon and dark, and the grand prize of 2 billion ISK to the phenominal duo of Cip and Birk - our 2008 teamed cruiser tournament champions!

The tournament is concluded and a final summary can be found on the SAK EVEnts website. A lot of great strategies and exciting fights from many many teams. I hope everyone went home with at the very least a good time and a lesson or two learned. ;) I am proud of the turnout, and I hope this rejuvenates the EVE community to hold bigger and better capsuleer-run events in the future. Thanks to everyone for being responsible and honorable during the course of the competition, and for diplomatically solving what few problems that did arise.
For those of you who wish to be added to the SAK EVEnts mailing list, EVEmail me requesting such. And stay tuned for future video highlights of the tournament to be posted here and on the website linked above. And if you pass me sometime in local, be sure to wave. ;) Fly safe everyone.
